We can’t tell you precisely why Houston is festival central, but if calendars are any indication, there are several parades, fairs, festivals and different kinds of events almost every weekend. From art and drink festivals to cultural festivals and sporting events, pick your event; there is something for everybody. Here are some examples of some that happen on an annual basis:

- Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo: World’s largest livestock show and rodeo with a barbecue cook off, concerts by famous bands and singers, roping and bull riding, and a carnival among other things. It used to be called the Fat Stock Show and Livestock Exposition when it first began 80 years ago. It was established after 7 met met for lunch. http://www.rodeohouston.com/

- Sunday Streets Houston: A portion of a great Houston street is closed to vehicular traffic, from 12-4 pm, during on Sunday of each month. Streets chosen change each month. www.gohealthyhouston.org/sundaystreetshtx
